Vocabulary Words

First of all, let me say CONGRATULATIONS to all those who won the vocabulary challenge today!!!


This weeks words are:

1. colonies: territories governed by a parent country
2. engraved: carved, cut, or etched into a material
3. portraits: picture showing a person, especially the face
4. taxes: fees/money paid for the support of the government required to be paid by people and businesses
5. liberty: the right to act as one chooses or freedom from control of others
6. oppose: to act against something or someone
7. cargo: the freight carried by a ship or other vehicle
8. sentries: soldiers who stand at watch for danger or for people without permission to pass
9. dispatched: sent off to a specific destination
10. petticoat: a skirt or slip worn by girls and women as an undergarment
