- variable: A letter or symbol that represents a number in an algebraic equation
- equation: A mathematical sentence with an equals sign
- function: A rule that gives exactly one value of y for every one value of x
- ordered pair: A pair of numbers in which one number is considered to be first and the other number second
- inverse operation: Operations that have opposite effects. For example, subtraction is the inverse operation of addition.
